- Armenspeisung
Liste (http://www.hungersite.com/donationstodate.html) zeigt, wieviel Mahlzeiten
"erklickt" wurden. Was spricht also dagegen, die Hungersite zur Startseite ins

Konzept von The Hunger Site dar.
paar Sekunden Zeit kostet.

The Hungersite - Den Hunger der Welt per Mausklick lindern

Dear Mr. Ziemann,
Thank you for your email enquiring about The Hunger Site. I am pleased to confirm that The Hunger Site, an independent website created to fight hunger, has chosen to give the donations it generates via the internet to WFP.
WFP is grateful for the contributions received from sponsors of The Hunger Site, using the money to provide desperately needed food assistance to hungry people in 80 countries around the world.
The Hunger Site is an innovative new tool to help feed the hungry. Visitors to the site are invited to donate a serving of food by clicking on a button. The donations are paid for by corporate sponsors. Cash donations equivalent to more than a million servings of food have been donated since the site opened in June 1999.

- Is
the Hunger Site Legit?
From
the Mailbag...
Dear Guide:
I received this message today and did not find it listed on your current
hoaxes, etc. page. Have you heard of this? It can't possibly be legit...
Subject:
FWD: The Hunger Site This looks like it's for real and it's a really
neat website! All you do is click a button and somewhere in the world
some hungry person gets a meal to eat at no cost to you. If you look
carefully at the map that every time someone dies of hunger - India
blinks the most..... The food is paid for by corporate sponsors. All
you do is go to the site and click. Visit the site and pass the word.
Dear Reader:
You can't be blamed for being skeptical. On the surface there's not
much to differentiate this warm, fuzzy offer from the dozens of "forward
this to everyone you know" scams and hoaxes already out there. It even
seems to promise something for nothing, usually a classic sign.
But on closer examination, this Website turns out to be unique. The
Hunger Site doesn't ask much of you, but it does require that you view
a small blurb from one of its sponsors when you click the button to
make a donation. In exchange for that exposure, the sponsors contribute
funds which are channeled to reputable international programs to feed
the hungry. All the available evidence indicates that the Hunger Site,
founded by private citizen John Breen as a personal contribution to
improving the plight of the world's poor, is completely legitimate and
really works.
In a recent edition of the Internet Tourbus, Patrick Crispen confirmed
the site's integrity through one of its sponsors:
I know this whole "click on a button, feed a hungry person" story sounds
too good to be true, but I called one of the Hunger Site's sponsors
and they confirmed that they were indeed donating 3 cents for everyone
who clicks on the site's "Donate Free Food" button. The sponsors are
donating the money to generate goodwill (and, truth be told, sponsoring
the Hunger Site is also a brilliant marketing move -- once someone clicks
on the "Donate Free Food" button, they are taken to a page that shows
a small ad for the sponsor. The click-through rates for these ads must
be phenomenal!)
Internet Tourbus - July 22, 1999: In response to my own inquiry, Anthea
Webb of the United Nations' World Food Programme confirmed that it does
indeed receive donations via the Hunger Site and labeled the project
"innovative." According to Webb, "Cash donations equivalent to more
than a million servings of food have been donated since the site opened
in June 1999." See the World Food Programme's July 29 statement for
further details.

Here
is the set-up for what could possibly be the PERFECT urban legend: visit
a particular Web page, click on a nondescript button on that page, and some
hungry people somewhere in the world will magically receive some food. As
urban legends go, this one has EVERYTHING: you feel sorry for the starving
people, you want to do something to help ease their suffering, all you have
to do to help feed these starving people -- and, at the same time, ease
your conscience -- is to visit a particular Web page ... heck, even *I*
couldn't write an urban legend THIS good.
Well, folks, this isn't an urban legend. There really is a site out there
called "The Hunger Site" that is donating money to hunger relief organizations.
All you have to do to make a donation is visit http://www.hungersite.com/
and click on the "Donate Free Food" button. Every time you click on that
button, one of the Hunger Site's sponsors donates 3 cents to the organization
running the Hunger Site's Web page. Of that 3 cents, approximately 2.58
cents is sent to an international relief organization [currently the donations
are going to the United Nations World Food Program]. That may not sound
like a lot of money, but 2.58 cents is enough to both purchase and transport
one and a half cups of cooked rice or grain cereal.
I know this whole "click on a button, feed a hungry person" story sounds
too good to be true, but I called one of the Hunger Site's sponsors and
they confirmed that they were indeed donating 3 cents for everyone who clicks
on the site's "Donate Free Food" button. The sponsors are donating the money
to generate goodwill (and, truth be told, sponsoring the Hunger Site is
also a brilliant marketing move -- once someone clicks on the "Donate Free
Food" button, they are taken to a page that shows a small ad for the sponsor.
The click-through rates for these ads must be phenomenal!)
There is one small piece of bad news, though: you can only click on the
"Donate Free Food" button once every 24 hours. In other words, even if you
click on the button a million times, you can only donate 3 cents a day.
Still, if you are looking for a way to make a small difference in the life
of someone suffering from hunger and malnutrition, add the Hunger Site to
your bookmarks and try to visit it once a day.

Betreff: WFP and the Hunger Site
Dear Mr. Koch,
thank you for your message. I should let you know that the World Food Programme
(WFP) has terminated its relationship with The Hunger Site effective 23
November 2000, due to unacceptable delays in the remittance of funds collected
for the hungry. A copy of WFP's press release
is below, for your information.
Sincerely,

The World Food Programme
is the United Nations'front-line agency in the fight against global hunger.
In 1999, WFP
fed more than 89 million people in 82 countries including most of the world's
refugees and internally displaced people.
WFP's
press release:
WFP ENDS RELATIONSHIP WITH HUNGER WEB SITE
After
careful consideration, the World Food Programme has terminated its relationship
with www.TheHungerSite effective Thursday, 23 November 2000.
WFP decided it could no longer permit GreaterGood.com of Seattle, WA, or
TheHungerSite.com, to use its name for fundraising or promotional purposes.
The decision was prompted by GreaterGood.com's inability to remit to WFP monies collected on behalf of the hungry poor from sponsors of TheHungerSite.com. TheGreaterGood.com collected $371,675 from sponsors of TheHungerSite.com between July 1 and September 30, 2000. However, The GreaterGood.com has remitted only $200,000 of this amount to WFP.
The World Food Programme remains very grateful for the $2.9 million in contributions generated by The Hunger Site since it began operations in June 1999. However, WFP believes that the individuals who clicked on the site and the sponsors who have paid for those clicks from the site's inception to the present time intended that their donations should be used by WFP to provide food to the hungry.
